OK this is about my son he is 12 and keeps showing a interest in learning the guitar. I dont want him to spend years learning nothing like i did, so were should he, or I teach him to start, he can barely hold a string down so want to start him the right way. He has been picking a little so should I get him just to gently slowly get the fingers used to strings (chromatics) maybe some beginner chords.
Thats all ok and yes this is a great way for learning subdivisions but quarter notes to eighth notes is a 50 bpm increase which could be too much for some nothing wrong with sticking to quarter or eighth notes and slowly pushing up the bpm mostly keep it clean but allways push sometimes over your limit to see what you can reach
What i was starting to think Pebber by time i get round to doing day one again it sucks So I am sticking to the first five ( in detail) daily until i can get em to a decent bpm at the mo we have 5.21 ..220bpm 5.22...240bpm 5.23...160bpm 5.24....240bpm 5.25.....220bpm At Quarter notes Is that time to move on or not 5.23 three is a bleeder
May be good find Slash hope you heal soon, my left hand wrist seems to have healed. now got right shoulder pain had a weekend holiday with minimal playing land my shoulder starts playing up.. dont figure
Ok so this is how i do things at the moment Module 1 i split in 3 so single string day 1, adjacent day 2, non-adjacent, day 3 I'm happy with this
It's module two where i'm not so sure will use spider to explain was doing 5.21 to 5.28 day1 5.29 to 5.34 day2 5.35 to5.40 day3 now is this right or am i jumping around to much, should i just do a couple of spiders say first four and stick to just them everyday until i have em perfect or should i do all spiders one day ladders the next.
Agree about the Sarod FRaKH The other night was picking using scapel which is pretty quick, then noticied i was going into turbo mode rotating while still using scapel i thought yes craked it sounded awesome. Next day back to sucking again guess my hand was pretty tired but it will come back. tame it I shall!!
In reply to question 2 my Repertoire also suffers but i am the sort of person who enjoys the excercises ( quarter notes chromatics at 50bpm) painfully boring. but i would say yea defo build your repertoire if thats what you want. but still leave some time for the routine.
As for the trills i was doing 5 mins each exercise over 2hours for first set, i now still do 5 mins each but not so many i never really got any pain just burns and i would trill through that to a point where it would feel fine again but yes i would say more rest and i'm not sure strapping would help as the third finger is joined with the fourth..
Funny you should say that pebber. I was once throwing a few darts usual scores then started getting in a big argument with the missus. was so pissed off but realized after i was hitting scores i would never normally get.
Ok Ok sold!! you've convinced me .. but yea i ave been looking at getting an ibanez a lot of rgx350dxz's seem to sell on ebay is that a good thing though. was gutted last christmas time in a cash generator bit like a pawn shop i happened upon a original fender strat £160 why oh why did i not get it kids could of had presents the next year...
Reading my post back i actually do day 1, single string day2, adjacent day3, non- adjacent, splitting it like means i can really focus without rushing..
I pretty much do this with the metronome on 60 too. having never really measured my speed. but just been doing sixtuplets at 140bpm so it must be helping. I spend an hour (At The Least) on down, hour on up, hour on alternate... on alternate days depending on time. plus my accuracy is soo much better
My guitars consist of a yamaha pacifica £55 off ebay and a Yamaha rgx £50 of ebay.. love em both price or make or model should'nt matter if you like playing it thats all you need
slightest pain in the back of my wrist. was practicing wholetone, diminished, scales and paul gilberts technical difficulties last night i can normally trill and all that for hours. so last night never really did a lot and today have this pain. should i give the left hand a rest..
