Yea i find if i become fatigued in one position i can move to another and push it a little more, Gonna try what Adam has mentioned going down and up and move up a fret.
I do a similar thing with jazz style spiders i start on the sixth (thick) string to first and then back, start at the ninth fret all the way to the first fret and back, pretty much going through all the finger permutations 1234,1243,1324,1342,1423,1432, etc. all fingers must always be touching the strings. maybe overkill but i love this shit.
Please call me Darryn, Deltadiscos was what i signed up with as was running a disco at the time :)
Looking good have you done these before and running over them again, or is this the first time doing them. It takes time for those muscles and neurons in the brain to connect. I feel its good idea to try these in different positions on the neck also, seems to work those different little tendons. A day rest off from these can also work wonders, gives the hand time to reset. (not too much rest though).
You should be able to play without any thumb pressure, The thumb is there as a guide really. you should be touching the strings onto the frets not pushing them down. Theres a great video of Pebber playing live where he removes the thumb from the back of the guitar and plays like this. He also does it in a speed video on youtube. i guess this would come after a lot of strength training, why not give it a try.
I think what your doing sounds ok, do you feel your progressing and getting better if so that's fine. If you want you could all ways split things over a couple of days to spend more time on one exercise.
Nice video all looks good to me. Its all about freeing up the hand, you just have to keep working at it, its amazing how hard these were even after 20 years of playing. keep up the good work. Need to get back on these myself.
Quote: deltadaz wrote in post #8I like the Matt Warnock site, is full of usefull info. youtubers i watch. robert baker, guitarlessons365, ben levin, ben eller, creative guitarstudio, music is win, steve terreberry(for the humour)
We are so spoilt with these days with youtube, I sort of miss struggling with the one chord book, and a old theatre song book, and an amp made from and old tube radio.
Hi deltadaz, and Welcome to the Forum!! You listed some really good ones there, especially Stevie T --- THAT dude is not only absolutely hilarious, but he can SHRED like nobody's business!!
,,,and YES, I long for the days when I used to sit with my copies of Guitar For The Practicing Musician (anyone remember THAT mag? It was way better than Guitar World, back in the day), my Sony Walkman (we're talking mid-80's), my Epiphone V (similar to the Randy Rhoads style), and my Peavey solid state micro amp (SCREEEEEEECHING FEEDBACK FOR DAYS)!!! Oh yeah,,,GOOD TIMES, indeed!!
Not sure what happened there, looks like i managed to log in, on an old account i never used. but thanks for the welcome Adam.
Also forgot to mention Troy Grady on youtube goes in depth on pick slanting worth a watch. And also of course Pebbers own videos, although i no longer have to visit youtube to view them as i have them all on my hard drive, organised into folders.
You can pretty much pick however you want, and you will get good as long as you put the time in. Pebber teaches the way he does as he has seen a lot of students have success with it,
Got to say i was stuck for years with terrible picking until i came across pebber transformed my playing.
maybe if you could put up a video of your pick angle, would help. And a link to the pebber video where he demonstrates tilting the pick forward.
great video moonman maybe just slow the metronome down to start with, will make those 32nd notes easier when you get to em. you want to get your upstrokes sounding like your down strokes so maybe work on those alone too. keep working at it though mate nice job, keep us updated.
Just take it one step at a time. put most yer energy into modules 1&2 for a start. spend a lot of time on those really get an exercise down before you move on to the next. Then start bringing in module 3 with 5 position major, minor, harmonic, melodic, pentatonic, and arppegios. then you be well on yer way.
Sounds great to me exactly what you need to be doing a few minutes here and there just won't cut it. When I first started the picking exercises. I would start as the kids left for school and still be picking the same exercise when they got home 6 hours later. Its the only way. Work work work.
Great videos you are defo on the right track cant fault you at all. scapel picking looks awesome effortless. maybe slow the trills down until you build up the strength there. a lot of movement comes from the arm with the trills not just the fingers. great idea to always use the metronome. and timings all sounded spot on to me.
Also did you jump straight into 14 position or run through 5, 7, first ?? just curious
great stuff though keep pushing yourself look forward to seeing the progress in your next video.
yep the irony did not really come across in my response .... why i asked for a backing track also. nice try though bud. people hear are not that stupid we know it takes years and years of dedication to get to a top level ..
maybe move down the finger slightly. have you had problems with that finger before, I know i got a piece of glass in one of my fingers years ago. its still in there somewhere and hurts if i press in the wrong position. it will take time to build a callous on your finger also if you just changed position take into consideration also, maybe pop a video up so we can have a look at your form.
Some thing i've allways struggled with, basic chords i'm fine, i've wrote out my own chord diagrams. but have trouble memorizing them. you wanna look into jazz standards. 12 chord studies, drop 2, drop 3, chords its is a massive subject.
