Description Found this site while researching why, after so many years of playing guitar, I still suck. Have been in a number of performing bands, but both left-hand and right-hand technique never became very good, so I'm breaking it all down to figure out why that's the case. My musical approach has always been more spiritual than technical, and I want to balance that out with more attention to technique and detail. I'm a life-long follower of Jerry Garcia and that music and culture, probably not a great fit here but we love what we love. I was shown how to pick very early in my learning with a circle technique, but never really got it, and instead just found my own form of alternate and economy picking, not formally trained in either. It's too sluggish and lacks a certain attack sparkle (I play mostly clean, very little gain) that I want. Jerry picked in several different ways, but mostly, per his own words, used a scalpel technique similar to Howard Roberts, which I now know is not quite the same as circle picking. Started googling all that, and ended up here. I recently found and watched a number of Pebber's videos, great info and unusually well explained, very grateful for his generosity. Looks like I have a lot to learn, sure hope I can incorporate some of the techniques on this site into my playing, and at least get past some of my current limitations. I know it will take work and time, and am not young, so we'll see how it goes. Latest activities Tags |
