I've seen pebber play that exact chord with thumb over top (forgot which vid)....Mind you...classical form is your default but you gotta be flexible with your techniwue not dogmatic/unnecessarily rigid

It's ok to use the thumb to help you mute. And, certain chords require you use the thumb such as D/F#
