I was smoking a cigarete out side in the freezing cold up here in MN. And It I was so cold I was just shaking all like a leaf and whatnot and It occured to me that my hand that was gripin my smoke was just shaking out all crazy like and it just hit me; thats sarod...it just like when you are shivering when you are smoking outside in minessota...only you are holdin a pick in your grip instead of a cigarette. and you lower that shivering bad boy onto your strings.

I just rewatched that video...And Yea that is just him doing his own picking stlye which is not at all sarodic...Also I dont know that I would want to try emulating his left hand tech either....I could not hear much ofthe mans playing because I was so off put by the sheer appearance of his left hand tech. maybe good video for developomng tea drinking chops though?

Finally tracked down all FRaKh video's :) Quack ! Awesome stuff brother !! I sure hope your still Hangin around !!! I have a simple stupid question. Sorry ! Pebber lol lol Is sarod slow? i know the incredible speeds possible :) the reason i ask. When listening to FRaKh talk and practice ......and he shows his slow movements practicing. before going to WARP speed..... i was thinking, after a few days of reflection. Sarod is a wrist and forearm movment and is as valid !!! at 60bmp's !!! is this correct? or is it speed ?

Absolutely correct. It is NOT simply about speed as so many others think.

It's all about the sound you want to create. The technique is just a means to an end. Although I dont do Sarod, a good example of it would be Mr EVH playing the tremolo picking part of Éruption. Actually, anytime Ed tremolo picks He seems to do a motion that is real close to what Pebber describes.

If it is picking speed you are concerned with, There are a few guys you should check out...
Rusty Cooley

Michaelangelo Batio
Mike Stern
Eric Johnson
Joe Bonnamassa
George Bellas
Shawn L'âne
Paul Gilbert
Tony MacAlpine
Jason Becker
Marty Friedman
Marshall Harrison
Terry Syrek
Ron Thal
Jimi Bruno
Django Reindhardt
Chris Impelliteri
John Finn
Nuno Bettencourt

Some better than others, but all of them good enough to release a record or two...

Of course, guys like Vai, Malmsteen, Satriani, Steve Morse, John McLaughlin need not be mentioned, eh?

With Sarod....
Sixtuplets at around 240bpm is possible...

Thats Alternate picking across the strings...in patterns...

It was done....

Forearm is the engine.....Scalpel is the finesse..."some" wrist does move...but its more of a get into position type of movement.
