I caught these guys live tonight, jazz fusion group out of Chicago. The guitarist is a Berklee grad.
They opened for Holdsworth in 2012 as well.

From 8:10 to 8:24, I think Holy Shit are 2 good words for describing the technique. I think this might be my favorite acoustic performances I have heard.

Edit: I just don't get why McLaughlin isn't a household name

Love the way the Berklee grad plays. Think I have been playing too stiff and hitting the strings too hard want to try to play like him thanks for the video. McLaughlin is from another planet entirely awesome!

If you are not thinking about the guitar every 30 seconds then you are not concentrating.

If I could play like this, I would be smiling also. Incredible phrasing. Like Pebber said, solo like it's a horn.

Always loved Al di Meola. I remember one of my friends had this on cassette back in '91. I was 14 at the time. This biker gang across the street would have these big blowout parties on the weekend. 72 hour non stop hardcore partying. They would let us come into their "clubhouse" and shoot pool, drink beers, and stuff. Sometimes they would let us put on whatever music we wanted. My buddy pulled out the Kiss My Axe cassette and all these bikers were looking around like "What the fuck is that shit?" Good memories!

Killer album and this performance is killer. I've watched it on YouTube several times. Really tight odd time latin groove. Awesome playing.

Saw him once in New Orleans. It was a very laid back show...meaning everyone was seated. After the show, everyone was leaving. Al came back out and said "where is everyone going I have more songs."

The audience walked back up to the stage and all the chairs got thrown out of the way. He played "Race With Devil On Spanish Highway" and "Egyptian Danza" to close out the show and it turned into a full on rock concert.

There was this group of guys that I came to know from the Thursday nights jam night that was held at this bar that was owned by my accounting teacher. The guitarist, (his name is Carlo) I think is really good and is as close to a virtuosso as I have encountered; he is by quite a bit, the best guitarist that I have had the pleasure of hanging out with on any sort of regular basis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AOIyJK-FiE

Ok, here's my contribution. Millions of these on the Tube. I've heard it all: 90s Phish > new Phish, only see them live, they are the Dead junior, yadda, yadda, whatever. This band one was of maybe three that made me want to pursue the guitar 20+ years ago. If I were to make a list of five guitarists that I wish I would be able to be like (musically), Anastasio is one of them. (My apologies to the crowd here, but Buckethead is not on that list. I actually learned who Buckethead was AFTER I learned who Pebber was).

PS, what I like most about Phish is that they improvise most of the solo'ing in all their songs. So each night you hear a particular song will sound different. Some takes grab you and some don't. Oh, and no fixed set lists either.

Thanks Damon, I enjoyed those. You did? Then check out Maze in this one at about 21:30. There's a great organ solo and interesting comping with ongoing feedback between Trey and Page. Oh, and you can try out all of your 14 position G-major scale shapes too, experimenting with the different modal sounds during the guitar solo before you come back to that Bb.

Love Uli Roth. Also, Holdswoth's playing with Tony Williams may be my favorites of his entire career. The solos on "fred" and "snake oil" are unbelievable.

saw this show, loads of fun. the band members were very social with the crowd which added to it. guthrie is clever and also has a great sense of humor.
