  • Timespan of Technique developmentDateThu Jul 19, 2012 5:03 pm

Ya that books called the outliers. I am well aware of the 10,000 hour rule and I have tons of time to practice.(and I use that time) I was just dwelling on how long you should develop something before going to another exersice. But thanks for the help I'm pretty sure that I Know what to do to get out of this rut.

When working on a technique, to what degree should you develop it before moving onto another exercise? For example, with say the spiders, after getting it down with all the timings at 50bpm should you stop there or develop it more. I decided to work up to 80bpm(quintuplets) but then i stopped because I wasn't sure whether I should develop it more. Because of this I keep putting myself in this huge technique rut where i work something a little then keep jumping around and never really mastering anything. Or should you take it as a lifetime thing where it never ends?

Can this way of looking at polyrhythms be applied to the matrix of ratios?

Thanks for the help I Really appreciate it. How would you describe the "Over The Top" state of concentration?

  • Developing Concentration SkillsDateTue Apr 10, 2012 7:42 pm

Does anyone have any tips on how to improve their ability to truly concentrate with your full potential during a practice session? I find some days I concentrate better than others, and to be quite honest I have no idea why it's like this. One day I will start to practice and I will click right away and be set for the rest of the session, but other days I will try to concentrate with all my might and I still can't focus in on what I'm working on. This lack of control is extremely frustrating because It's a terrible feeling to practice 8 hours a day but feel like you've done 4. I really appreciate any advice, because without intense concentration it feels pointless to practice heavily.

Sorry if i gave the wrong impression, but i'm just a kid and unfortunately i don't have enough money to pay for lessons. If i had a job i would definitely pay for lessons, after watching Pebber's videos over and over again and getting better at guitar the more i listen and practice, i think he deserves the money even for the free stuff! But now that I am aware that you can pay for more lessons, I'm going to try my best to get enough money for at least a few

Could anyone shed some light on the two handed trill exercises from the daily practice routine? it seems to be the only exercise from the practice routine that hasn't been explained through Pebber Brown's videos. Does anyone know what they are?

One last thing regarding the amount of arpeggios there is to learn: you know how there is many different combinations of formulas for chords? Well if youre in the process of mapping them out and learning them, could you do the exact same thing with arpeggios, since there basically chords played as melodic intervals?

Thankyou very much for your reply. I have been very reluctant about singing when it came to memorizing scales, arpeggios etc.(i think mostly because my voice dosent have the range to hit all the notes from the 6th to 1st string) But seeing how many people view how important it is i am definately going to follow through with singing what i play.

Hi, I've been following Pebbers advice and insights on, well generally all aspects of the guitar since i discovered him and his lessons. For a while now i have taken the time to watch most of his videos and follow his daily practice. Im currently working on the 14 position system and mapping out chords( scaletone system level 1 videos) as well as all the aspects of technique, timing, scale sequences etc. But one thing i am struggling with is arpeggio practice. Other than learning the arpeggios from the CAGED, & 14 position system off his website, how else can you practice arpeggios?( for those who have watched it i have also watched the modal arpeggio practicing video). How do you guys Practice arpeggios?
