I'm pretty shitty compared to the guys here but in my opinion the pentatonic and blues scales ("Pentatonic & Blues Scales:" on the "Guitar Lesson PDFs" Page) and chord progressions / repertoire will be most important, . And technique obviously :)There are some great videos on it too, like "Solo Basics", "Blues Licks 101" on Pebber's Channel

what got me into Holdsworth was "Devil take the Hindmost", other songs seemed too "out there" for me when I first found out about him

I haven't heard of those but Dava picks seem to be popular here (I know at least one very high speed guitarist who uses them :) ), personally I use the ones with the red grip, I love their grippyness (seems easier to relax the picking hand) and the attack feelbefore them I used Dunlop Jazz somethings but now they're much too thick for me

Right now I'm using a weirdly green Ibanez RG 550 with a vox AD15looking forward to getting this thing together though
