Shawn was and is a great inspiration to me. One of the greats. Lots of demons, dwarfed by his immense talent. He is missed. Rest in Peace "Memphis Monster"

All his shit was mind boggling at the bare minimum!!! He stepped out of normal patterns and created a lot of his own unique patterns and rhythmic ideas. People should understand what a true TITAN he really was. He was a very chill dude as well no ego at all.

Pebber, I have watched a ton of videos of Shawn's playing. My god, He was so unique. I haven't heard anyone play as great as him. He is up there with McLoughlin and Holdsworth. They were 2 of his biggest influences. He was also an incredible musician. My favorite musician's are Frank Zappa & Mike Oldfield and I rate Shawn as great as those guys.

You spelled John McLaughlin's name wrong. Not a good place to do that!
Shawn was fast and used a lot of scales that most never heard of and rhythmic patterns
that no one every tried. Except McLaughlin and Holdsworth. Shawn was in awe of Holdsworth.

Pebber could you explain 1 example of a scale pattern Lane played that nobody else played or Holdsworth/McLaughlin for that matter ?

edit: To elaborate, what does it look like relative to the major scale ?

Lane didnt play patterns that nobody else has played - he only played a small FRACTION of the patterns that Holdsworth plays. He used about 5 of Holdsworth's ideas and made a career out of it. Holdsworth just winks and rolls on.
