Question about note permutations

Hi my name is Samuel. I am new here so I dont know if this question has answered before or not but, I understand like 5 note permutations and the available fingerings that go along with it but, I was thinking the otherday. This may sound backwards but. Can I have for example, a simple 3 note sequence, and repeat one of the notes twice? Equaling out to 5 notes? Since its a 3 note sequence that would give me one of the three finger fingerings. Or a four note sequence repeat some of the notes 3 times equaling out to 7 notes ect ect things like that thats my question.

I tried top be as clear as possible lol thanx in advanced

Heres what I mean like a 5 note sequence is like A,B,C,D,E. So lets say I want a 5 note sequence but I go about it in this way, A,A,B,C,D, or A,B,B,C,D or A,B,C,C,D ect ect thats what I mean Im not sure if i would have to stick with a 4 finger aproach or I could get away with using 3 fingers
