I've been playing bass for about 12 years and when I started I always used a strict 4 finger fretting hand thankfully. I learned my modes first and happened to be playing the pentatonics by accident for a couple years before I solidly knew the 5 positions after opening a book. The pentatonics just seemed right to me when playing in a rock context.

I have about 5-7 hours to practice a day, broken up into pieces. I can do 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon and then I can do a 3-5 hour block after 10 pm (I work and have a 3 year old son). How would you practice the right and left hand exercises in that time frame Pebber?
