  • 1-2-4-3 chromatic permutation problemDateThu Jul 12, 2012 9:19 am

now I'm a bit confused. I have practiced many months the classical technique with chromatic scale and I'm find with it. But I thought the permutations were "designed" to generate fingering independence and that you had to lift every finger after you played the note.

of course it is not the classical technique....but it helped to practice your brain - finger connection.

Hi, I forgot to mention that I do almost the entire set of excercises for both hands, provided by PB.

Debilius...thanks I will give it a try, and this may solve the issue...but I don't think I'm correcting the weakness on the fingers with this, right? is just another way of doing the permutations...

Hi everybody, I'm having issues with the 1243 permutation. After finger 4, the finger 3 ends very close to the theatboard and is very difficult for me to lift it up. I guess this is because the finger is weak, but keep in mind that I practice thrill exercises every day.

I'm focusing also in 2 notes ladder exercises with fingers 3 and 4, docking fingers 1 and 2...but not sure if this will help correct this problem.

Any exercise you guys can recommend me I would really appreciate it.

  • Question on major scale and the 6th relativeDateSun Mar 25, 2012 8:03 pm

Hi, I have a question and I have been trying to find an answer with no success yet.
I know the CAGED 5 position system and I'm starting with the natural minor scale.

I have read that for every major scale you have the relative minor scale on the 6th degree (I can explain it better in spanish :-))
Shouldn't the positions on the guitar in the minor scale be the same as the major scale but moved over the freats? If I look in the "5 Position (CAGED) System - LARGE" pdf file, they are not the same.

hope this is not a too stupid questions...

    thank you guys.

  • Daily practice questionDateMon Dec 05, 2011 10:30 am

    thanks for the risponse.
    I couldn't find:
    4-Finger Ladder
    Pivot Exercises
    Symmetric Scale patterns reverse angling
    Pentatonic Long pattern exercises
    Pentatonic Directional patterns
    Open string pentatonic patterns

Another question PB, I only know some exercises of module 1 and 2, and that is what I practice all day. I don't know what a Diminished (mi3) Scale is or a Dominant 8-note Scales is. I can practice by memory but I don't really enjoy it...so should I start with some theory while my fingers are getting better with the first two modules?

I was planning on start paying for lessons after 6 months of practicing only modules 1 and 2.

  • Daily practice questionDateFri Dec 02, 2011 7:44 am

Hi guys from over the world! It preety new with the guitar and I'm able to practice only some exercises from Modules 1 and 2.

    From Module 1:
    Picking Exercises on each string
    Picking Exercises on ADJACENT strings
    Picking Exercises on NON-adjacent strings

    And from Module 2:
    Classical Form on all strings
    Spider Exercises
    Trill Exercises
    2-Finger and 3-Finger Ladder Exercises
4-Finger Ladder and X-Pattern exercises (only the X-pattern exercises, couldn't find any 4 finger ladder examples)
    Chromatic Scale exercises (ALL)
    Chromatic Movement patterns
    Chromatic 4-finger permutation patterns
    3-Finger Movement exercises
    Wholetone Scales/Sequences

I practice 2 hours per day on all of these exercises. I feel I improve a bit every day so thanks Pebber for your help and dedication.

My question is, should I start learning some exercises on Module 3 and 4 and the rest of the modules or I should better focus only on module 1 and 2 for more time? If so, for how long should I focus only on these 2 modules?

Does anyone know where are the pfd files of the missing Module 1 and 2 that I'm not able to practice yet? Probably only by paying...but just want to be sure.

    Thanks to all!

  • Hand exerciser for guitarDateFri Nov 25, 2011 10:36 am

Hi guys, I started a month ago playing guitar and I'm doing everyday for many hours the right and left exercises of Mr PB's daily routine.
Of course, after sometime playing but fingers and hand are in pain due to my lack of experience.

Do you think something like this would be good? http://www.amazon.com/Gripmaster-Exercis...r/dp/B0006GCBL4

Will it add any value or should I just continue with the daily routine? I have a day work so I could be doing some exercises with the hand at work, but I don't want to over use it and get my hand and fingers too strong if is not beneficial...I'm afraid of loosing speed.

    thanks!

  • Classical form newie questionDateTue Nov 22, 2011 7:23 pm

Thanks Pebber, I totally agree of a good technique by practicing the way it must be practice, which is what I try to do on every day.

My doubt was for example, If I also have to use the same technique for if a practice the pentatonic scale. When I move from string 1 to string 2, before I pick on the 2dn string, do I have to wait to have both 1st and 4th fingers placed on the threads, or do I do it like in the ladder excercises and pick them as I place my finger on the threads?

  • Classical form newie questionDateTue Nov 22, 2011 12:49 pm

    thanks to both.

  • Classical form newie questionDateMon Nov 21, 2011 7:58 pm

Hi people, I'm new to PB lessons, and I have a doubt regarding the way to play consecutives notes on the same string going up the board, and by going up I mean playing lower pitch notes.

I'm ok with the all the exercise on the chromatic scale, I can go up (by putting all 4 fingers at the same time and lifting them as I play the note) and down by leaving the fingers in the same position as I play the notes.

But does it always have to be played that way? I need years of practice but I think I may be slower playing it this way for example while practicing other scales or soloing. And I don't see Mr Brown doing it always this way either.

So the question is, to play 4 consecutives notes going up on the thread by not doing it like in the Chromatic Scale #1 excersice is wrong?
I hope I maid my self clear.

  • I was one of the boneheads of the month! haha, so stupid!
    Gracias desde Argentina!
