You mean play in any key. but yes if you have learnt the caged system, you will see that the root notes never change you just move the scales around them.

stick an Eminor backing on and play a g major get that minor sound, then try g major over a Aminor backing and get a dorian sound. its all relative to the chords being played but you are on the right track.

  • Daily Practice Routine for the Busy ProfessionalDateMon Oct 05, 2015 12:35 pm

If you have 60 minutes a day work 30 mins module one 30mins module two every day for a while add in 5 position system.
when you have your technique down start spliting time between the modules...
but remember to have some fun work some tunes also. can get a lot done in 60 mins if you stick to a schedule and get it done

nice picking though ashan sound pretty clean to me. great idea to practice on the acoustic to.

  • Help with Picking TechniqueDateMon Sep 14, 2015 1:23 am

great vid timing ok. on the pinky personally i would try not to anchor held my picking back for years (or could of been lack of focused practice?) but as adam said there a lot of great guitarist who do this, just looks uncomfortable to me and much neater with pinky tucked in.
on scalpal you need to over emphasize more really get that sawing motion going if its a picking style you want to pursue
I also noticed you seem to do it backward?
what i mean is you are going through the strings this way / instead of this way \

But hey what ever works for you.
is you back pain guitar related ? hope you better soon bud

i would get some songs you enjoy or want to learn and just stick to that for awhile and have some fun. When you come to something in the song you struggle with then work on that problem. you've then sorted that problem for any other songs jamming you wanna do.
There is more than one way to reach your goal. oh yea and set goals short to long. know where you want to be and get there.

  • 5/7/12/14 Scale systems use ?DateSun Sep 06, 2015 1:38 pm

Whatever system you use, the scaletones on a single string will allways be the same.
so never underestimate how much playing up and down single strings will help. then on to two strings and so on
the book, the advancing guitarist. explains it pretty well.

Also Pebber shows the steps to learning this shit starting with incremental, I wrote it in the forum somewhere.
lots of work but so fun

  • Are my scalpel and sarod motion right?DateFri Jul 24, 2015 11:19 am

i like to think of sarod as having a key jammed in the door and wiggling back and forward to free it.
Pebber describes it as stirring a drink vigorously with a spoon... good idea to practice away from guitar then lower pick to string,,,thats when it becomes difficult ... i'm no expert but yea looks about right...

  • Module 1 Right Hand ExercisesDateMon Jul 13, 2015 7:53 am

Are you doing scapel picking. loosens up the hand. left hand could do with more curve especially the pinky.
slow metronome down to 40-60 bpm, and work on timing divisions.
    good video though mate

  • hi there jw.. as someone who is also interested in drumming, i wondered if you know of any druming sites/tution
that are setup like this with a syllabus. to work through. most sites seem all over the place.
    cheers.

  • Module 1 Right Hand ExercisesDateThu Jul 02, 2015 7:15 am

farelli i didnt worry with the 7 position ... went straight to 14 after 5... as 14 position system contains all 7 position system in it...i really got 14 under my fingers before moving to scaletone form system too...

Scaletone form system is a lot of work you gotta map it all out first. with all possible string pair/groups. you gotta do all that with all variations...2 string.. 3-4/4-3/4-4/ 3 string.. 3-3-4/3-4-3/4-3-3/3-4-4/4-3-4/4-4-3/4-4-4/
    4string... 3-3-3-4/3-3-4-3-/3-4-3-3/4-3-3-3/3-3-4-4-/3-4-3-4/3-4-4-3/4-3-3-4/4-3-4-3/4-4-3-3/3-4-4-4/4-3-4-4/
    4-4-3-4/-4-4-3-4/4-4-4-4/
    5 string etc.

like i said a lot of work.

  • Module 1 Right Hand ExercisesDateWed Jul 01, 2015 11:42 am

my post above was meant for will..

your pick angle looks and sounds fine and timing seems good. not sure i can see sarod.
looks like alternate picking but as i said hard to pick up on video.

you said you have trouble putting scapel and sarod together.
lets say scapel was out and in.. and sarod is up and down.

i have an exercise i do
    go ex.1. out...in....down...up....
    ex.2. in...out...up...down...
    ex.3. out...up...down...in...down...up
    ex.4. down...in...out...up...out...in

makes think a little more fluent.
doesnt come accross well wrote down maybe i will put up a video..
